A Quiet Place 3: Officially in Development After Release Delay – Here's What We Know

Fans of the A Quiet Place franchise can finally breathe a sigh of relief—A Quiet Place 3 is still in development, despite a significant release delay. Over the last decade, the A Quiet Place series has become one of the most iconic names in horror, thanks to its unique storytelling approach where every sound could spell disaster for its characters. Since the release of its debut film in 2018, the franchise has expanded to include a sequel, a highly anticipated 2024 prequel, and various other media ventures, including video games, comic books, and even theme park attractions.

A Quiet Place 3 Officially in the Works

In an exclusive interview with The Direct at SXSW, franchise producer Brad Fuller addressed the status of A Quiet Place 3 following its delayed release. Fuller, who was promoting his new film The Astronaut, confirmed that the third installment is still in development, clarifying that A Quiet Place: Day One is not the official threequel.

Fuller explained, "Day One is not A Quiet Place 3, just to be clear. We are starting to put [the threequel] together right now." He went on to discuss how, when the first A Quiet Place film was made, director John Krasinski didn’t have much else on his schedule, which allowed him to focus on the project. Now, Krasinski’s skyrocketing popularity is a factor in the delay, as he has been involved in multiple high-profile projects since the original film’s success.

"Now, he’s so in-demand, and it’s hard to get him… He’s making a movie now, so as soon as he finishes that, we’re hoping he will turn his attention to A Quiet Place 3," Fuller added. "We all want to finish that trilogy, and I’m hopeful there are even more Quiet Place movies beyond that."

What Caused the Delay in A Quiet Place 3?

The delay in A Quiet Place 3 can largely be attributed to John Krasinski’s packed schedule. In a previous statement, Emily Blunt, the franchise’s lead actress, mentioned that she was eager to return for a third film but emphasized that she wouldn’t be part of the project without Krasinski at the helm. "I don’t want it to be with a different director if we did it again," Blunt said.

Krasinski's involvement in other projects, such as If and his growing status as a sought-after filmmaker, meant the wait for A Quiet Place 3 continued to stretch on. However, with Krasinski’s current commitments nearing completion, it looks like the long-anticipated sequel will finally come to life.

What's Next for the A Quiet Place Franchise?

A Quiet Place 3 was first announced by Paramount Pictures in 2022, just after the success of A Quiet Place Part II. Originally slated for a 2025 release, the project shifted gears to prioritize the prequel, A Quiet Place: Day One. That film, released in 2024, was a major critical and commercial success, allowing the studio to refocus on the mainline trilogy, including the highly anticipated third film.

While no official release date has been confirmed for A Quiet Place 3, fans can rest assured that the project is moving forward. With Krasinski potentially wrapping up his current projects soon, the third installment of this groundbreaking horror franchise may soon take center stage. Fans are hopeful that this will be the next step toward completing the trilogy—and possibly paving the way for even more A Quiet Place stories in the future.

Stay tuned for more updates as A Quiet Place 3 continues its development journey.
