‎Disney and Pixar Announce 'Coco 2' Sequel Set for 2029 Release‎

‎At Disney's annual shareholder meeting, CEO Bob Iger revealed that the studio is working on a sequel to the 2017 hit film Coco. Tentatively titled Coco 2, the film is currently in the early stages of development and is slated for theatrical release in 2029. While plot specifics remain under wraps, Iger teased that the sequel would feature humor, heart, and adventure.

‎“Although the film is still in its infancy, we are excited about what’s to come,” Iger remarked, hinting at the magic that audiences can expect. The original film’s directing duo, Lee Unkrich and Adrian Molina, will return to helm the sequel, with Pixar veteran Mark Nielsen, known for his work on Toy Story 4 and Inside Out 2, taking on the role of producer.
‎The original Coco was a critical and commercial triumph, grossing over $800 million globally and winning two Academy Awards, including Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for Remember Me. The film followed the journey of Miguel, a young boy who defies his family’s musical ban and travels to the Land of the Dead to uncover the truth about his ancestors during Mexico’s Dia de Los Muertos.
‎Pixar has found success with sequels to its popular franchises in recent years, including Incredibles 2 and Inside Out 2. While original films like Elemental and spinoffs such as Lightyear have seen mixed commercial performance, Pixar continues to develop sequels to beloved titles like Toy Story 5, Incredibles 3, alongside fresh narratives like Elio and Hoppers.
